Tree ridiculous

I went to a town meeting of the zoning board recently, and was struck by how fixated a couple board members were on the fact that someone was planning to take out some dying old trees and replace them with smaller (but more suitable) trees. I think most of us listening were thinking “duh — trees grow!” So what if they start out only eight to ten feet tall? In a few years they will be big, dense and gorgeous, and will more effectively hide the new construction. Then there was the insistence of moving, not cutting down a Norway maple. Folks, Norway maples are junk trees. They’re weeds. There are much better maples out there. Cut them down and replace them.
